Now that the winter snow has finally melted away, it’s time to pull your RV out of storage to get it ready for all of the amazing trips that are coming up in the spring and summer. However, if you’re not quite sure how to start de-winterizing your rig, you may want to read through our helpful guide below. In it, we list the many ways you’ll need to care for your RV’s interior and exterior components, as well as a few quick ways to check that your engine and battery are still in good condition.

Exterior Care

Your rig may have developed a pretty impressive layer of dust and dirt while it sat in storage. To keep this grime from becoming a permanent fixture on your RV, you’ll want to grab your hose and sponge and give your model a quick scrub. However, before you get started, be sure to double-check that your rig doesn’t have any cracks or gaps that could allow water inside. If you do notice a few suspicious holes on your rig, you’ll want to take a moment to patch them up and check your interior for any signs of pests.

Inspect Your RV

Once the outside of your RV has been washed and dried, you’ll want to get to work inspecting some of your models more sensitive components. For example, cool temperatures often result in flat tires, and you’ll need to check your wheels’ air pressure readings before you can safely drive your rig. Your battery and engine fluids will also need to be inspected. Double-check that your battery can hold a charge, and doesn’t show any signs of cracking or corrosion. Your fluids will also need to be clear, light in color, and contain no floating debris or metal shavings.

Interior Care

Your RV’s interior will also need a bit of attention. Take a moment to walk around the inside of your RV and test various lighting and appliances that have been sitting dormant over the winter seasons. As you move around, it may also be wise to open cabinets, doors, and windows to help air out your RV. If you haven’t already, you’ll also want to rinse and refill your fresh water tank and run your pump to remove any leftover antifreeze.
