Toy Hauler Loading Tips
While a toy hauler’s cargo bay can be used in any number of ways, one of the more common uses is to transport powersports vehicles. Unfortunately, some toy hauler owners don’t know how to properly load their toy hauler and end up unintentionally causing damage. That’s why Moix RV has created this toy hauler loading guide.
Distribute the Weight
Most toy haulers are towable RVs rather than motorhomes, which makes proper weight distribution all the more important. By putting 60% of the total cargo weight in front of the front axle and the remaining 40% behind the front axle, you can help make the towing experience so much easier. Since a toy hauler’s cargo bay is situated at the back of the RV, you may need to put more weight at the front of the trailer to help balance things out. Balancing the weight from right to left is also important, as uneven weight distribution can lead to uneven tire wear and problems with controlling your tow vehicle.
Loading
The gates on most but not all toy haulers double as a ramp. We recommend loading on level ground at a low angle to make things easier. Slowly drive your powersports vehicle up the ramp and turn off the engine before moving to secure the vehicle.
Secure Your Vehicle
Finally, secure your powersports vehicle in place using D-ring tie-downs or ratchet straps. Once you’re done, give it a few good tugs to make sure that everything will stay in place. If your vehicle is allowed to shift around while you are towing the toy hauler, it can mess up your weight distribution and damage both your powersports vehicle and your RV.
